                               HORSESHOES

Horseshoes for horses are pieces in the form of a "U", built  of iron, rubber, plastic or leather, nailed or glued on the edge of the hooves. Horseshoes used for steers and cows have another way that suits their hooves, two claws on each foot. Horseshoes are used to protect the hulls and hooves against wear and tear. The first shoes were sticking pins or tabs to provide extra traction (these are still being used in some competitions of horses).
